Sibutramine weightloss tablets
Sibutramine 10mg and 10mg tablets work by help the patient curb cravings for food, feel fuller by eating less food and in turn lead to weight loss. It is available much cheaper than the branded version of Reductil™ and Meridia™. The full technical name for this medicine is Sibutramine Hydrochloride Monohydrate.
It works by effecting chemicals in the brain that control feelings of hunger. Sibutramine is a re-uptake inhibitor essentially increasing levels of norepinephrine, serotonin and dopamine. This in turn leads to less natural hunger and in turn eventual weight loss. Another good effect of the treatment is that patient in effect re-climatise to eating less and re-train their normal patterns of eating. This effect can last continually after the treatment has stopped. Although sibutramine is aimed at patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 30, body sizes and fat ratios can vary between individuals and patients with lower BMIs could still benefit.
Dosage can be started at 10mg and increased to 15mg if needed after a month of analysis. One tablets is to be taken everyday at roughly the same time within an hour of waking up. It can be taken with or without food. The course normally continues for 6 - 12 months.
The success of this treatment can vastly differ depending on the willingness of an individual. Used alongside a calorie controlled diet and moderate exercise throughout the week, patients can experience weightloss of up to 10% body weight within a four week period. Used without these factors, a 4% loss is typically achieved as natural hunger decreases. For patients with serious weightloss needs, consulting a dietician can be also benefical.
- Diabetics needing to use this for weightloss based on health reasons should always do so under the supervision of a GP.
- Patients prone to high blood pressure should ensure their blood pressure is continually monitored as prolongued use of sibutramine can raise it.
- The use of Reductil™ / Meridia™ / Sibutramine is not recommended during pregnancy.
There are some disease sufferers who should never take sibutramine. Please read the list below or consult your GP.
